InterTechnics is home to two complementary bagpipe projects: a large tune library for finding music and an online editor for working with it. These resources are built for pipers who want practical access to music without unnecessary barriers.

Tune library

Bagpipe Tunes

Search and browse a collection of more than 5,500 tunes for the Great Highland Bagpipe. The library includes marches, strathspeys, reels, jigs, hornpipes, airs and other familiar pipe-music forms.

Tunes are available in formats used by bagpipe music software, including BWW, BMW and PiobMaster files. Whether you are looking for a particular setting, exploring music for a new medley or trying to track down a half-remembered title, the searchable collection provides a useful place to begin.

Music editor

PipeWriter

PipeWriter is a browser-based tool for creating and editing bagpipe music. It gives pipers a convenient way to work with pipe-music notation online rather than being tied to a single desktop installation.

Use it to write a new setting, make changes to an existing tune or prepare music for practice and sharing. PipeWriter and Bagpipe Tunes are separate tools, but they are part of the same goal: making pipe music easier to find, use and preserve.

Built from experience

Made by a piper, for pipers

I’m Jeff Forrester, a Great Highland bagpiper and longtime LAMP and WordPress developer from the Appalachian Highlands of East Tennessee. InterTechnics brings those two parts of my life together.

Bagpipe music has its own notation conventions, file formats and practical quirks. These projects come from actually using that music—not simply building a generic download directory or notation demo. My aim is to keep useful pipe-music resources available to the community and make them straightforward enough to use during the real work of learning, arranging and sharing tunes.
